On October 11, 2024, ISD co-hosted the inaugural symposium of the new Earth Hub at the University of Liechtenstein School of Architecture (LSA). The Earth Hub investigates the potential of regenerative building materials in the construction industry, particularly rammed earth and timber construction, through research, teaching, and practice.
For the first Earth Hub Symposium, around fifty regional and international representatives from architecture, research, and the regional economic sector convened at the University of Liechtenstein to discuss innovative approaches to earth-timber construction and its technological, economic, and socio-cultural potentials. The symposium included visits to innovative projects showcasing the use of regenerative and recycled materials in architectural construction in the Liechtenstein region.
ISD’s founding board member and Chair of Sociology and Professor of Architecture and Society at the University of Liechtenstein, Lindsay Blair Howe, is a founding member of the Earth Hub. Together with the renowned architect Anna Heringer, the leading expert on rammed earth technologies, Martin Rauch, and other faculty members at LSA, she will shape the Earth Hub’s growth over the next years. ISD will continue engaging in the Earth Hub’s discourse around regenerative building materials, contributing to its promotion, visibility, and partnering in future events.
